My wife bought me the book 'I shouldn't even be doing this" as a Christmas gift and I left it sitting on the table next to my chair without looking at it. Finally I picked it up two months later and started to read it. I couldn't put it down at first then I started to milk it by only reading a little each day to make it last. What a wonderful book. I would love to meet Bob Newhart just once so I could tell him how funny I think he is.

I just read I shouldnt even be doing this and it brought back some wonderful memories. I remember Bob as far back as the early sixties doing his funny telephone routines on the Ed Sullivan Show.
The book had me laughing about the stewardess who asked Bob if he would like dinner. Whats the choice, Bob asked. Yes or no, was the reply!
Reading how the last Newhart Show ended I thought a better ending might have been if done exactly how it was but in the end Joanna woke up from a dream. Joanna wakes Bob telling of her dream that had Bob as a psychologist in Chicago and married to a wonderful woman. Bob then says something cleaver, tells Joanna to turn out the light and smile at the camera. The light goes out. Oh well, it's all water under the bridge now.
Thanks for the memories Bob. You have been a wonderful part of my life.

I was fortunate, QuincyIL (your location, btw?! My daughter student teaches near there). I caught Bob on a book signing tour right after the book came out.
If you can handle your book JACKET signed, it's best to send something like that in a plastic protector sheet in an envelope with a cardboard (to keep it safe), and tuck in the same size envelope stamped and addressed back to you with the same amount of postage you put on the outgoing one.

I have always enjoyed Mr. Newharts work but only recently have I become a huge fan. This has been in part due to his book. As someone whom has always wanted to be a standup comedian I have found this book not only hilarious but educational as well. To anyone wanting to start a career in comedy you HAVE to read this book or you are doomed to failure. I so hope he writes another one and soon. Love ya Bob!
